Common Questions about Prescription Assistance Programs - FAQ

When people hear about Rx Access and how the company can help them get free or discount prescription drugs, they usually have questions. One of the most-asked questions is if the prescription assistance is for brand name medications. The answer to that is an unqualified yes, because the rx help comes directly from the pharmaceutical company’s drug manufacturer, since affordability is typically only an issue on brand name drugs.

Q.  What is a Prescription Assistance Program? (PAP)

A.  Most pharmaceutical companies understand that the high cost of prescriptions can prevent low- or fixed-income people from taking their necessary prescriptions as prescribed, which can further increase the cost of healthcare. They have developed the prescription assistance program so they can provide low-cost or free brand name medications to people who qualify for the program.

Q.  Who is Rx Access?

A.  Rx Access is a prescription advocacy organization that provides prescription assistance to people who are struggling to pay for their necessary, costly medications. For a small monthly fee, Rx Access connects their clients with the pharmaceutical company’s Patient Assistance Program. In addition, Rx Access handles all the necessary paperwork, refills and ongoing support for a patient to stay qualified for their Prescription Assistance Programs.

Q.  Who is this program intended for?

A.  This program is intended for low income individuals and families struggling to pay for their brand name prescription medications. And will save you money by participating in our program.

Q.  Is this Insurance?

A.  No. This program is not an insurance product and is not affiliated with any governmental program, including Medicare and Medicaid.

Q.  Is there a limit to the number of medications we will help you with?

A.  No! There is no limit on the number of medications we will help you with. Our average patient takes 5 different medications, however, we have patients that take as many as 16 different prescriptions and some that only take one or two.

Q.  Am I officially qualified and in the program if I have been pre-qualified or sent forms to sign?

A.  Final approval is always up to each drug company. If you are denied, you or your doctor will be notified by the drug company. An appeal may be necessary to get qualified, so if you receive a denial letter from a drug company call your advocate team at 877-226-9050 to see if we can help.

Q.  Are the Medication’s Actual Brand Name Medicines?

A.  Yes, the medications come directly from the pharmaceutical companies. Rx Access does not provide the medications, but advocate on behalf of their patients to the appropriate pharmaceutical company who distributes the medications through their Prescription Assistance Program. The medications are the same brand name medications dispensed at local pharmacies.

Q.  What Does Rx Access Do?

A.  Rx Access offers RX help by determinining each patient’s eligibility and qualifications with each prescription assistance program so they can obtain no cost of discount prescription drugs. While the prescription assistance programs are free to those who qualify based on income, the paperwork can be confusing and complicated. Also, administrative changes often confuse people using the program. Rx Access eases the process of their patient’s access to their required medication by identifying what is needed to qualify for each prescription assistance program and handling all the required paperwork.

Q.  How Do I Become a Client of Rx Access?

A.  A person needing rx help completes the Rx Access qualifying application online at www.rxaccess4u.com or can call us toll free at 877-226-9050. Rx Access then matches the patient with the pharmaceutical company’s Patient Assistance Program, and will determine if the client is eligible for the program. Once that is established, Rx Access mails the completed prescription application to the client, who has their physician sign the prescription forms, and the client mails the information to the pharmaceutical company in the enclosed, pre-addressed envelope.

Q.  What if I am not currently taking all my prescribed medications?

A.  Many patients are not getting all of their prescriptions filled, splitting pills, or taking their medications less often than they should simply because they cannot afford them. We certainly want you to take all of your prescribed medications! Please ensure that all medications you should be taking are listed on the enrollment form exactly as prescribed by your doctor(s). If you have a need for generic medications you can go to www.pscard.com and order a prescription discount card via the internet or call the toll free number listed on their website.

Q.  What if I have a change in my medication?

A.  You should contact the advocate team  and inform  them of any changes in your brand name prescriptions, including any changes in dosage or frequency, or if your doctor has added a new medication, or taken you off any medication we are assisting you with. We will make the appropriate changes for future refills and assist you with your new brand name medications whenever possible.

Q.  What if I move, change doctors, or have other changes?

A.  You need to notify your advocate team immediately of any changes in address, phone number, email address, for you or your doctor. Also, notify us if any of your payment information will be changing such as, your method of payment and checking or credit card account changes.

Q.  How do I determine the Number of People in Household and Household Income?

A.  Generally, this is determined by tax guidelines. If someone is claimed as a dependent for tax purposes, they should be included. If you are living with a relative or friend, they would typically not be included, as they would not be claimed as dependents for income tax purposes.

Q.  Do I have to be a U.S. resident?

A.  Yes, most drug companies require U.S. residency, but not citizenship.

Q.  How do I get my medications?

A.  This varies and is up to each drug company. Most ship to your doctor's office and some ship directly to your home, but there are exceptions. Manufacturer's will not ship drugs to a P.O. Box, so please your complete and deliverable street address is included on your applications. If you address is undeliverable, your medications will be shipped to your doctor's office.

Q.  Can I benefit from this program if I am enrolled in Medicare Part D?

A.  In most cases, if you are in the Part D "donut hole", we can assist you during that time. There are some limitations to some of the PAP's because of Part D eligibilty, however, we do not charge an enrollment fee or monthly service fee until our advocates have discussed the programs you are eligible for and determined that the program makes sense for you. We like to see you apply 3-4 weeks prior to going into the donut hole, so that we can start the paperwork and get your medications to you as soon as possible!

Q.  Can you help with my diabetic supplies?

A.  Yes.  Abbott provides for free;  FreeStyle Flash Meter Glucose Monitoring System, Freestyle Blood Glucose Monitoring System, or Precision Xtra Blood Glucose and Ketone Monitoring System, strips and lancets to eligible applicants.  Abbott requires you contact them directly to be pre-screened for an application. Call them toll free at 866-224-8887 to see if you qualify.

Abbott requires that you have applied to Medicaid, been denied, have no prescription insurance, and meet their income guidelines. Their completed application must be sent in with doctor's note about testing requirements, proof of income, and a denial letter from Medicaid.

Q.  What if I have prescription insurance but still cannot afford my medications?

A.  In some cases we may be able to help if your drugs are not in your insurance company's formulary. In most cases however, you would not be qualified for a PAP due to the fact that you have insurance.

Q.  If I have a discount card will I still be eligible for Rx Access?

A.  Yes, since our program focuses on brand name drugs, you will likely still benefit from your discount card for your generic drugs.

Q.  What if most or all of my medications are generic?

A.  Each patients' situation is unique. Essentially, if we can save you money on your monthly drug bill, it may make sense to enroll in our program even if we can only help you with one or two of your brand name drugs. If you are only taking generics, we would recommend you go to to www.pscard.com and print their rx discount card or call them to order a personalized card. Their toll free number is listed on their website.

Q. How are refills handled?

A. Most drugs companies approve you in their PAP's  for one full year and will require you apply for re-qualification annually. Others require re-qualification quarterly or semi-annually. Rx Access handles your refills and your re-qualification automatically!

Q. What if I want to cancel your service?

A. To cancel our service, please fax your cancellation notice to us at 208-498-3147. Or if you have general questions about our program call us at 877-226-9050, one of our team members will help answer any questions. Please Do Not cancel by revoking charges to your account. You will be held responsible fees we incur and your service fees due prior to receipt of your written cancellation.

Q. How can i be sure my online enrollment information is secure?

A.  At Rx Access we take your security very seriously and have gone to great lengths to make sure your information is protected and is only transmitted with secure servers and the information is encrypted, so that if someone does intercept your information it won't be usable.  In order to ensure that your enrollment information, including your personal health information and financial information, is secure, it is important to make sure that the enrollment site is secure.
